Retirement Wishes and Sentiments to Honor a New Retiree

Retiring is a special time for anyone, and a goal almost everyone spends their careers working toward. The act of retiring truly marks the end of an era and the beginning of a new one. But for those who haven’t yet retired, it can be difficult to express the right sentiments at a retirement party (or via a mailed or hand-delivered retirement greeting card).
If you aren’t sure how to express your feelings–or if you aren’t even sure how you’re supposed to feel–these retirement quotes may help you get ideas:
“As you move forward into this next chapter of life… don’t forget your reading glasses!” - Samuel Paterson
“Life begins at retirement” – Anonymous
“In retirement, the money’s no better… but the hours sure are!” - Anonymous
“Goodbye tension, hello pension!” - Anonymous
“Sometimes it’s important to work for a pot of gold… Other times it’s essential to take time off and make sure the day’s most important decision is choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow.” - Douglas Pagels
“The best things in life are free… or at least discounted by the AARP.” – Anonymous
Of course, the real trick for expressing the best of retirement wishes for the newly retired is to personalize your message, based on your relationship with that person or his or her specific likes and dislikes. If the person in question hates poetry, for example, don’t fill his or her card with sappy retirement poems.
But when it comes down to it, the main thing you’ll want to convey is just how you feel about the newly retired. Show him that you care, and that you’re happy for him, and that you wish him well in his future endeavors. If you can do all of that simply and honestly, you won’t need to assemble a list of impressive quotations to make him feel loved. Your own words will do the job even better.
